We are quick to correct (and often even scorn) folks who believe that their works/deeds can save them, but yet we cling to and even promote the idea that somehow our works/deeds can be the gospel and save others. If the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and we cannot be saved without faith, and faith comes by hearing - what is it about actually proclaiming the gospel in words that has become so taboo that we would not only seek to avoid it, but actually try to replace it with anything that doesn't involve us speaking?
Sometimes people have a hard time with the thought of words being the sum total of a Christian's life, and I agree wholeheartedly. Please understand, that is not what is being proposed here. Christ calls us to do more than preach and we absolutely must live our lives in a manner that supports the gospel, but we must understand that our lives and lifestyles cannot fully communicate the gospel message. If you agree in that regards, then you agree that words are necessary. Deep down, we all know it is true.
