Often times the atheist response to any assertion of the truths of the bible is along the lines of “you can’t prove it.” They often (try to) come across as intellectually superior because they feel their stance is based on provable facts instead of faith. It's not. It requires faith to be an atheist as well, some have asserted even more faith than it requires to be a Christian. Not my call.
What many of us (especially atheists) often fail to recognize is that as a world view, atheism must justify it’s assertions just like any other world view, perhaps even more so since it is often presented as being rational and based on "evidence" or lack thereof. For those of us who have lost their mind (carnal mind, that is), this is entirely unnecessary, but for the unspiritual man, a little exercise in logical conclusions can open whole new worlds of thought and may even create a soft spot in their seared conscience with which the Holy Spirit can do wonders.
Atheism in general makes various absolute statements about the universe, man, and God which it expects us to accept as fact. These assertions must pass the same tests for truth that are used to judge any and all such assertions. Atheism is thus not exempt from having to substantiate its truth claims, unless it wishes to be deemed as based on faith instead of fact. If an atheist is willing to concede to that, then there is no reason to go any further, he just needs to hear about Someone worthy having faith in. If he is still clinging to facts and proof, and denies the faith aspect of his beliefs, here are some issues you may wish to ask him to reconcile.
The creed of atheism is as follows: In the entire universe, there has never been in the past, there is not now in the present, and there will never be in the future, any god, gods or goddesses of any size, shape or description.
Is the creed of atheism intellectually superior? Is it even logically valid? When examined in a simple and straightforward manner, the honest thinker will actually find that it is irrational and unacceptable to the educated mind.
1. According to the laws of logic, it is impossible to prove a universal negative. When an atheist makes the assertion, "There is no god anywhere at any time," he is making a universal negative which he cannot prove. Since he cannot prove or demonstrate his assertion, he is being irrational.
2. The second logical problem is that the only way he could prove his assertion that there is no god is to become God.
· He would have to be everywhere in the universe at the same time, i.e. he would have to be omnipresent and infinite.
· He would have to travel throughout the past, the present and the future at the same time, i.e. he would have to be eternal.
· He would have to know all things, i.e. he would have to be omniscient.
· In order to be infinite, omnipresent, eternal and omniscient, he would also have to be omnipotent.
3. Thirdly, if only an infinite and eternal God can logically say there is no infinite and eternal God, this itself would be a self-contradictory statement and, hence, irrational.The atheist's creed clearly and seriously violates the laws of logic and is thus irrational in nature. The honest atheist, when confronted with this reality will admit that he does not know. Not knowing makes you an agnostic. Pure and simple.
Granted, being an agnostic instead of an atheist doesn't get you any closer to salvation, but it does potentially keep the first part of Psalm 14:1 from applying to you when it says: The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. The second part of that verse, however, is still completely applicable (as it is to all of us) when it says: They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.
Proverbs 14 goes on to say in verse 12 that "there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
Bottom line? All atheists actually believe in the God of the Bible, but they choose to suppress that truth because they enjoy their sinful lifestyle. Jesus said, "Unless you repent you will perish."
