The shrinking back spoken of in Hebrews 10:38 is not limited to retreating in fear, it also encompasses an unwillingness to press forward, dig in and deal with the difficult and dark corners or our hearts, the places where we don't want to go and the failures we don't want to talk about. Being in Christ is not simply about holding ground we have already taken, it's about advancing and continuing to take back more and more territory that is rightly ours - it's about overcoming.
What area of our lives do we need to let him dig deeper into today? What part of our heart is He wanting to reclaim? There are fears to which we still cling that He patiently longs to replace with assurance. There is safety in His arms, and He will deal with us gently, but only if and when we are willing to let Him.
